WRECKAGE
Wrecked again
all of us,
shipwrecked,
in your wake
Not so shipshape
Wrecked by
the tempest
in your wide, wide wake
We, the wakeful
flail
in these
following
confused
seas
They collapse on us
confound us
pull us under,
And,
under again
Going down for
the third,
the fourth,
the millionth
time
Random flotsam
Then, suddenly,
becalmed,
bejeweled, jetsam,
This stint of doldrums
serve small respite
yet
reignite
hope
hopeless hope
Stupid, undying, hope,
yearning
Die already, heinous, beguiling hope!
You gleamless mirage, mean longing,
You,
with your forward lean
killing us
over and over
like sport
And now
we’re
going
down
again
and
again
Random saviors
drown, too
We,
desperate,
grasp for them,
cleave to them,
push them down,
push all down,
and away,
They’re all gone
No safe harbor now
Shipwrecked, we are
No thing, not one thing, to salvage
Lost
"All is lost!"
Forevermore
How did we lose
what was
already gone?
You wreck me, baby, wreck us
wrecked our small swimmers
We are so wretched,
foundering,
no breath left
no longer treading
in your
turgid, swirling waters
We go down
for the last time
until
we float
lifeless,
circling in your
endless, eddying wake
Drifting hulks,
wracked skeletons
beached now
on this
our remote island
Lost forever
Our hollowed bones,
osseous tissue, blinding,
screaming white
under the blameless sky
